The End of Winter 2021?

These images will probably be the last for this winter season, I will post this year. I’m feeling that Spring is just around the corner…..I can hardly wait! Beautiful florals, sunshine scenics, here I come to capture you. Also, it shouldn’t be too long before vacation travel will be on the horizon. Vaccinations in place! I’m excited with the thought of that! 😊

Winter Scenes 2021

I thought we were going to get away from a really bad winter this season, as December 2020 was so mild and warm. January came in the same way except for a brief snowfall, which seemed to melt away quickly and again the weather was mild, not even very cold.

However, just as January was about to leave, winter said “I haven’t forgotten you!” 😊 On the 31st we got hit with a blizzard and February is keeping winter alive and well!

Frozen Flowers

Roses frozen in ice
The weather has been unusually warm for winter, so I have taken to trying something I learned from Kathleen Clemons photography online blog about freezing flowers. It’s been fun containing flowers in ice and seeing how their beauty still emanates within the ice. I have been freezing them in glass, plastic containers in the freezer, shooting through the containers then after removing the flowers from the containers.

It’s been a little tricky to get just the right composition but as they say practice, practice, practice. So I will keep trying until I get just the right look I am aiming for. In the meantime here are a few of my experiments.

I know snow is coming soon, so I will try making some of these floral images outside on the ice and snow. This is fun and it keeps me busy during the Winter season waiting for Spring. 😊

Stay tuned for more views of my experiments.

Welcoming the New Year 2021

“THE GLASS IS HALF FULL….”

The year of 2020 has been one to look back on and hope during my lifetime it never happens again.  Not to dwell on the negative but it has been an exceptional year of hardship, disappointment, for so many.  However as we look forward to 2021 many of us are hopeful that we can rise like the phoenix to a more healthy, profitable, and happy year ahead.

I have chosen to try to focus on the beauty that surrounds us in nature, which makes me happy.  I decided last year to start sharing my views of nature, with images of flowers, and scenics.  No matter what happens nature seems to survive and give us comfort.

I needed something to keep me busy while at first feeling confined and shut-in. Then it occurred to me, perhaps some of my images would be calming to others as well.  So I decided to create greeting cards to sell online.  It has been a welcome respite and has opened a whole new world of photography to explore, having come from the studio portrait world.

I am learning the beauty of fine-art floral world. I have been introduced to many other photographers who share my new found enthusiasm. It’s been so inviting, inspiring and satisfying.  Every day is a new adventure of finding another way to express myself in the art.

I found that, selling the cards wasn’t the most important driving force, as selling would have been during my days as a wedding and portrait photographer.  The most important thing was to create, keep the artistic juices flowing, to give me pleasure.  I have decided this is my journey for 2021 and I invite you to join me.   I will display more of my images, pass along some tips I learn and invite you to share your experiences as well.

Why don’t you subscribe to receive emails periodically of my new postings?

Hope to see you soon,

Cheryl 😊
